Uniforms of the Napoleonic era

One of the reasons why I love the Napoleonic era so much, is the uniforms. Let me tell you why.

Throughout the 18th century, uniforms became shorter and more practical. The main function of these colourful uniforms was to tell friend from foe. This became quite hard sometimes because of the massive smoke clouds from the musketry and artillery fire. Uniforms where also the same fashion as the civilian clothing at that time.

Prussian Dragoon - 1700

Prussian Curassier - 1757

Prussian Garde du Corps - 1809

As you can see the uniform (for example I took Prussian cavalry), is clearly getting more practical. The high collar and the shorter coat all has to do with the 'fashion' at that period of time. I'll now show what I think are the best looking or the most interesting uniforms of the Napoleonic era.

Swiss Grenadiers - 1812

Dutch 2nd regiment Lanciers Rouge(red lancers) and Guard Grenadier regiment - 1811

Bavarian Line Infantry - 1811

Westphalian Infantry regiment 'Köningin' - 1812

Württembergian Light Infantry and FussJäger - 1806
