Of all the car company's out there Alfa Romeo made the most stunning looking concept cars. Here are the 12 most special.
1. 1954 - B.A.T. 7 - Bertone
The B.A.T. 7 was part of a series of 3 concept cars created by Alfa Romeo and Bertone. The First car appeared in 1953 called the B.A.T. 5, a year later the B.A.T 7 and last but not least the B.A.T. 9 in 1955. The Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica (B.A.T.) cars were designed to experiment with aerodynamic bodywork and what influence this had on the performance.
2. 1954 - 2000 Sportiva - Bertone
Along with the amazing B.A.T. project, Bertone created another Alfa Romeo concept car. After the Disco Volante Alfa wanted a lightweight sportscar on the 1900 chassis. Only two Spiders and two Coupés were build.
3. 1964 - Canguro - Giugiaro
Ten years after the 2000 Sportiva Bertone build the Canguro on the Alfa Giulia 1600 Tubolare chassis. Sadly this car wasn't taken into production.
4. 1968 - Cuneo - Pininfarina
Pininfarina designed the Cuneo concept car was one out of four concepts used as a design study on the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale chassis. The other three cars are the Alfa Romeo Carabo by Bertone (1968), Iguana by Giugiaro (1968) and the Navajo by Bertone (1976). I think the Cuneo and the other 33 Stradale variations are the best looking concept cars ever made.
5. 1971 - Caimano - Italdesign
The Caimano was based on the Alfasud chassis. Remarkable was the windscreen that acted as a roof as well. With a length of only 3,91m and a heigth of 1,10m it is very compact as well.
6. 1991 - Protéo - Centro Stile Alfa Romeo
With the Zagato designed Alfa Romeo SZ in mind, Alfa set out and created the Protéo in a Alfa 75 chassis. You can clearly see that this concept acts as a source of inspiration for the later Alfa Romeo GTV production car.
7. 1996 - Nuvola - Centro Stile en Bertone
The Nuvola in named in the honour of Tazio Nuvolari. A coupé and a spider were made.
8. 1997 - Scighera - Giugiaro
The Scighera was designed on an Alfa Romeo 164 chassis. It was a 2-seater sportscar, it had an aluminium body and an 400hp Twin Turbo 3.0 V6. It never made it to actually being produced on a small scale (the plan was to do so), but Alfa did made a Scighera GT racer.
9. 2001 - Vola - Fioravanti
The Italian cabriolet roof manufacturer, Fioravanti, wanted to show their technical innovations on the Alfa Romeo Vola. It was fitted with a rotating roof that doesn't affect luggage space. This kind of roof was fitted succesfully to the Ferrari 575 Superamerica.
10. 2003 - Kamal - Centro Stile
The Kamal was a future SUV with 'sporty' characteristics. I think this car looks actually really good and it's a shame Alfa didn't took it in production yet. Altought I must say, making a SUV is not up to Alfa Romeo in my opinion.
11. 2004 - Visconti - Giugiaro
The Visconti was a 4-door sport-coupé, powered by a 405hp strong 3.2 V6 Biturbo. The 4-wheel steering and air suspention where special about this car, along with it's looks ofcourse ;-). With a length of 5 meters it is just as long as a Maserati Quattroporte. Sadly it never made it to production.
12. 2006 - Diva - Espera Sbarro
Together with the stylinghouse Sbarro, Alfa Romeo designed the Diva. It's a shout-out to the 33 Stradale with it's typical Alfa nose. The Diva is build on a heavily modified 159 chassis and power by the V6 of a 147 GTA.
I had a great time doing the research on these wonderful machines.
