The FIAT Mefistofele

What do you get when you put an FIAT A-12 aircraft engine on a London bus chassis?

That's right, the idea came from an automobile engineer called Ernest Eldridge, who wanted to set the landspeed record, and so he did.. Mr. Eldridge achieved a speed of 235 km/h (or 146 mph) with his Fiat Mefistofele, IN 1924!! After the successful attempt the Mefistofele got kind of lost until Fiat bought it in the 1970's from the nefews of Mr. Eldridge. Now it's on display in the Fiat Museum in Turin. It runs sometimes for promotional purposes, for example in 1999 when Fiat celebrated her 100th birthday, in 2001 during the Goodwood Festival of Speed and a couple of years ago to promote the Fiat 500 Twinair.

Here are some statistics:
Engine type: straight 6, SOHC, 4 valves per cilinder, A-12 Fiat airship engine
Horsepower: 320hp on the rear wheels (notice the chain)
Capacity: 21,5 liters
Lenght: 5.091mm
Weight: 1.780kg
