Over the hills, and far away..

My favourite series of all time, Sharpe.

The Napoleonic era isn't a succes in the movie theatres last few years. Everybody knows Waterloo (1970), but I think that's about it. I hope a few of you still remember the 'Sharpe' series. Based on the novels of Bernard Cornwell (who is absolutely awesome), it began in the early '90 with Sean Bean as the main character (and no he doesn't die for once ;-)).

I believe there are about 16 episodes made. The first 14 episodes are from 1992 - 1997, the last two parts are more of a tribute and were made in 2006 and 2008. The story is about Sgt Sharpe (Sean Bean), who is promoted to Officer for saving Wellington's life. Most of the other Officers don't like him because he isn't a gentleman.

The jolly die-hards

Most of the time Sharpe is on campaign in Portugal and Spain, along with his group of 'chosen men' or 'sharpshooters'. In episode 13 the story goes on in England, 14 at the Battle of Waterloo. Episode 15 and 16 are both in India. I really recommend this series to any lover of the Napoleonic era, and to Sean Bean fans ofcourse. ;-)
